The SUPREME sticker was a clear indicator that something would go wrong.

Of all the cars he could have hit, it had to be the R8.
Now, I don’t wish the death penalty for the kid, but I do hope his foolish behavior both during and after the incident are a lesson he won’t ever forget. I don’t know what kind of punishment he will receive for fleeing the scene of an accident, but I hope it’s enough to be a wakeup call for him.

I wonder if the parents are just as bad. I am sure the money was earned on the up and up.

Car related shenanigans deserve more severe punishment than they usually get because people forget that driving is not a required part of life or a right. It is ultimately optional. Therefore, consequences up to and including complete revocation of a minor’s driving privileges can and should be enacted when appropriate.
This is one of those times.

Judging by the orientation of the gauge cluster, the car was probably in race mode. TCS and DSC were definitely off. Just foolish.

Thanks for posting that video link. The YouTube embed in the CarScoops article was apparently taken down “due to a copyright claim by Struan Anthony Pereira”. My google-fu failed to turn up any relevant results for that name, but FWIW one of the Reddit comments says that the video came from the Toronto Car Spotting Facebook group before being quickly deleted.

...why didn’t the airbags deploy in the McLaren?
Also everything negative previously said about this dingus I second it.
ETA: after reading the article, I am very much interested in learning more about the owner of the McLaren, the dumb kid’s big sister! And she rolled up in a Lambo to boot to try and take the blame.

Nothing to worry about. His parents will just buy him another

And park it at one of their vacant condos or houses.

Judging from location, young money, etc probably some college kids from China who are studying in Vancouver using parent’s money to go crazy. It’s fairly common (not that I know firsthand, I’ve just heard lots of talk about it). Apparently supercars are much cheaper over here so they’re more willing to buy them stuff like that when they’re studying abroad.

Unfortunately, I think he’s another one those immature brats with too-rich parents who’ll just buy him another car. I heard that’s an issue in Canada; rich teenagers street racing, crashing cars, getting impounded, and they just get a new ride the next day.

Completely valid argument you have. Technically, he isn’t a minor, but I see your point. I wouldn’t make it permanent since at the end of the day he was completely irresponsible, but young. It should be long enough to get the point across though.

I know they have a similar situation there, just not as badly as Vancouver

Our insurance situation isn’t nearly as bad, so we have that going for us at least.

Well, the punishment should fit the crime. If my kid took the car without a license and caused a wreck, she would be without a car until she could buy her own. That would be natural consequences and also give her time to grow up enough to be responsible.
This kid couldn’t technically be forbidden from driving by his parents, but without their support, I’m guessing he wouldn’t have a super car to drive any time soon.

You and me both. But only when pedestrians and bystanders are safe, unharmed, or nowhere near the stupidity.
